The Iwatsuka Kinekosa Festival is Nagoya's way of praying to the gods for prosperity, peace and abundant harvest. The festival starts on the Shonai River, wherein a group of men brings a bamboo in the middle of the river. One of them will climb up the bamboo and the direction it will point when it breaks will determine if the year will be bountiful or not. Later on that day, men will be parading around the area wearing traditional black costumes.
