Dainichido Bugaku is an annual set of nine sacred ritual dances and music, names for the imperial palace ensemble's visit to Hachimantao, Kazuno District, Akita Prefecture in the early 18th century, during the reconstruction of Dainichido. The order and number of dances changed over time. The current order of serven dances includes Gongen-mai, Koma-mai, Uhen-mai, Tori-mai, Godaison-mai, Kosho-mai, and Dengaku-mai dances. There are also masks included in the reperesentation of shishi and Vairocana. The instruments also include the flute and taiko. Photo Credit: Japanese Station
