Zuisenji is a Zen temple, which is fenced within mountains of Kamakura. It was founded on 1327 by Muso Kokushi, one of the leading garden designers of his time, in a valley called Momijigayatsu.
Zuisenji is a branch temple of Engakuji Temple, which is also situated in Kamakura, is known for its dry rock garden and accentuated by a large number of blooming plum trees in Spring.
Apart from the designed rock garden, the natural rock walls within the temple grounds beautify the place.
There is a pretty tea house called "Ichirantei" that overlooks the garden and the pond. Visitors can also explore Jomyoji, another temple, which is adjacent to Zuisenji.
The temple is 45-50 minutes walk away from Kamakura Station. Alternatively, the nearest bus stop is Kamakura-gu Shrine, where the temple is only 10-15 minutes away on foot.
The temple is open all year round from 9:00 to 17:00, with 200 yen entrance fee.
