This castle stands at the height of 125 meters on a hill that offers a view of central Okinawa. It was built in the 15th century by Gosamaru, a legendary warrior that played an important role in uniting the many waring kingdom of Okinawa and the other islands under one rule.
This castle is included as one of the UNESCO World Heritage designated Castles of the Ryukyu Kingdom.
A day trip to Zakimi Ruins is a good thing for families or even alone. Visitors can take a nice walk to see the surroundings of the castle grounds including gardens and gazebos. There is also the Yomitan Village History and Folkware Museum at the entrance of the castle grounds.
By bus, take bus number 28 from Naha Bus Terminal to Takashibo Iriguchi. From there, you can reach the ruins in 20-30 minutes walk.
The castle ruins is always open, no closing days and it has free admission.
The museum opens at 9:00 to 17:00 and entry until 16:30.
It is closed during Mondays and National Holidays.
Admission fee is 200 yen.
