Mt. Yudono-San is a 1500 meter mountain located in Tsuruoka, Yamagata Prefecture. It is one of the three sacred mountains of Dewa, known as Dewa Sanzan. It has been the object of worship for centuries.
The shrine of Mt. Yudonasan is called Yudono-san Jinja, it is considered sacred among the three that it is prohibited to talk about the shrine and to take photographs.
Admission in the shrine in the mountain is allowed after the visitor remove his/her footware and received a ritual. Upon entering, visitors will have a short walk in the stoned pathway.
The shrine has no pavilion, the sacred object here is a rock which water spring comes out where visitors can worship.
Take a bus from JR Tsuruoka Station and then take a shuttle bus. The shuttle bus will then take you to the bus stop, which is near the entrance of the Mt. Yidono-san.
Yudono-san Shrine opens at 9:00 to 17:00. The mountain is off-limits during snowfall. Admission fee is 500 Yen.
