Yokohama's 750-meter public park is filled with greenery. It was constructed after the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 and was the first seaside park in Japan. The best-known landmark of Yokohama City is a perfect place for a picnic, a nice walk, and an all-around relaxation. The park is also popular in the anime/manga industry.
The amazing view of the port makes it a perfect place to stroll around, and it gives you all the fresh air of Yokohama City.
There are also dozens of benches and trees along the park where you can actually rest and look around.
Statues are also present, among those are the famous "Girl with the Red Shoes," located close to the waterfront, and the fountain called "Guardian of Water," which was a present to the people of Yokohama.
In front of the park is the ship called Hikawa Maru, it was used in the route Kobe-Seattle (USA) from 1930 to 1960 and now serves as a museum with informative displays from 1930s.
Also near the ship is the Yokohama Marine Tower. It has an observation deck that's 100 meters above ground and a 360 degree view of the area.
The Yamashita Park can be reached by a 5 minute walk from Motomachi-Chukagai Station (8 minutes from Yokohama Station) on the Minato Mirai Line.
Yamashita Park is open to the public anytime but its attraction like the Hikawa Maru and and the Yokohama Marine Tower has different opening hours and fees.
The Hikawa Maru opens at 10:00 to 17:00
It is closed on Mondays (If Monday falls on a national holiday, it will be closed on Tuesday)
Admission fee is 300 Yen
