Teshima Island's main attraction and considered as one of the most talk about contemporary artworks in Japan is the Teshima Art Museum. It is faces the ocean and it can be seen from the magnificent hillside of rice terraces in the Seto Inland Sea.
The museum opened in 2010 for the Setouchi International Art Festival. The main attraction of the museum is the 25cm thick concrete shell with two elliptical openings that are open to elements.
The best way to enjoy the museum is to feel and sense the wind, sound, water or light that comes to the two elliptical openings of the museum. The setting of the museum gives you a relaxation ambiance that can be enjoyed in all seasons.
The museum is located in Teshima Island, It is served by two ferry lines. The first one runs between Teshima's leura Port and Takamatsu and the second one runs between Uno Port in Okayama and Shodoshima.
The museum opens at 10:00 to 17:00 from March to September and 10:00 to 16:00 from October to February.
Closing days is every Tuesday around the year, Wednesday and Thursday from December to February. If a national holiday falls on the closing days of the museum, it is open and closed the following day instead.
Admission fee is 1540 Yen and 100 Yen with the Setouchi Triennale Passport.
