Sounkyo or Soun Gorge is one of the most spectacular forms of water to see in Daisetsu-zan Natural Park.
It goes along the Daisetsu-zan mountain range for about 24 kilometers. The waterfall called Ryusei and Ginga waterfalls rushing down towards the rocky cliffs. In winter season, visitors come in to climb the frozen waterfalls.
Sounkyo is just one of the sights you can enjoy within the largest park in Japan. You can also visit Kuro-dake, Asahi-dake, and Sugatami region.
There are also aplenty of public baths within the area.
From Asahiwaka Station (Hokkaido Railway), take bus no. 4 to Asahidake Onsen. Buses leave at 9:30 AM, 12:30 AM, and 3:30 AM.
You can stay at the Northern Lodge Hotel, where you can also rent a bicycle to explore the area.
