Shimane Art Museum is one of the largest museums in Chugoku Rehion that was established in 1999. The museum houses different paintings, calligraphy and other art works by artists born or in related with Shimane Prefecture.
Another amazing thing about the museum aside from its artworks is the sightseeing spot in the west side of the museum that gives an amazing view of the sunset.
The famous art works of Utagawa Hiroshige, known for his work of "Fifty-three Stages on the Tokai-do Highway" in Japan, is found in this museum as well as by Katsushika Hokusai, Monet, Gauguin, Sisley, Corot, Rodin, , and the pottery of Kawai Kanjiro, Bernard Leach, Hamada Shoji and. Hara Kiyosh.
From JR Matsue Station, it's a 15-20-minute walk away.
The museum opens at 10:00 to 18:30. Closed during Tuesdays Admission fee is 1,000 Yen
