The Shimanami Kaido or also known as the Nishiseto Expressway is a 60 kilometer-long highway that connects Honshu Island and Shikoku Island. The route opened in 1999 that begins in Honshu, Onomichi City and leads to the 6 islands of Seto Inland sea before ending in Shikoku in Imabari City.
Shimanami Kaido is only traversable by foot or bicycle and according to CNN, it is considered as one of the world's most incredible bike routes.
Visitors can witness the great environment of the Shimanami Kaido via an amazing cycling experience. Bicycles are available for rental along the Shimanami Kaido. Along the way, there are beautiful scenery of the Seto Inland Sea and the islands' small town.
It's a 40-48-minute walk or 10-15-minute drive to the north of Tomamu Station (Sekisho Line).
Alternatively, you can also take the Shizoake/Ishizuchi limited express and get off at Imabari Station.
Cycling Terminals can be found in Onomichi located for about 150 meters from Onomichi Station and in Imabari located at Imabari Station.
Rental Fee is usually 1000 Yen for adult and 300 Yen for children. There is also a Tandem Bicycle that cost 1200 Yen for a day.
NOTE that there is a deposit fee of 1000 yen for adults and 500 yen for children that you will pay together with the rental fee. The deposit fee will eventually returned once you returned the bicycle.
