Sapporo Clock Tower is a popular tourist destination and it is known to be the symbol of the city. The tower was originally constructed in 1878 as a military drill hall for Sapporo Agricultural College (Today is Hokkaido University) for defense purposes and in 1881, the clock on the tower, which was purchased in Boston, was installed.
Today, the clock tower serves as a museum dedicated to the history of the building and the lives and works of the student graduates as well as the teachers of Sapporo Agricultural College.
The tower has only two floors, the first one displays the building's history and Sapporo and on the second floor displays about the clocks (how it works) and it also has a musical hall.
The Clock Tower can be reached by a 10 minute from the south exit of JR Sapporo Station.
The Clock Tower opens at 8:47 to 17:10 and until 17:00 in the admissiob gate.
It is closed on December 31 to January 3 but there are infrequesnt closures for maintenance.
Admission fee is 200 Yen.
