Japanese style garden is among the most beautiful type of garden in the world. One of those is this Ritsurin Garden located in Takamasu, Kagawa Prefecture that is considered as one of the best Japanese gardens in the world.
It took over 100 years to completely build the garden by the lords of Takamatsu during the Edo Period. This historical garden is a desinated Special Place of Scenic Beauty, chosen as 3 star spot in Michelin Guide Japon and also celebrated as Japan’s foremost pine tree garden.
Savor Japanese nature through the natural beauty of Japanese style garden and stroll around the grounds. There are footpaths around the garden connecting ponds that allows visitors to walk around and view small island, hills and ponds. There are about 1,400 pine trees with bonsai trees, six large ponds and different artificial mountains that mainly represents the season in Japan.
The garden is not just about trees, visitors may also enjoy the view of different variety of flowers such as sakura, plums, iris and lotus.
Take a local train from JR Takamatsu Station and get off at Ritsurinkoen-Kitaguchi Station. From there, exit to the north date. The park will then be just a short walk away.
The park opens at 7:00 to 17:00 all year round but during summer, the park opens at 5:30 to 19:00.
Admission fee is 410 yen.
