Oldest standing Christian church in Japan is the Oura Catholic Church in Nagasaki Prefecture. It was constructed during the last years of Edo Period in 1864 to grow a community of foreign merchants, who reside in Nagasaki after the end of Japan's era of seclusion.
The church was designed by 2 French priest, Bernard Petitjean and Louis-Theodore Furet but built by Japanese carpenters.
The church is also designated as a National Treasure since 1953.
