Odawara Castle (Odawarajo) is a landmark in Odawara City in Kanagawa, and the closest castle keep to Tokyo Metropolis.
The castle was originally founded in mid 1495 by daimyo Hojo Soun, but had undergone refurbishment twice. In 1703, the castle was flattened by an earthquake; and on 1870, the structures were parted out and sold. Finally, it was rebuilt on 1960s as ferro-concrete, following the architectural models of the Edo Period.
Because of its proximity to the capital city of Japan, it is one of the famous cherry blossom spots during the hanami season.
The the three-story castle (and four on the interior) can be toured inside where visitors can see displays of armors and swords, and learn about the history of the castle.
Situated within the castle grounds is the Odawara Castle Historical Museum, where interactive displays about the castle and Odawara City's historical information are explicated.
The castle can be reached via JR Odawara Station's East Exist along Ohoribata Street.
Odawara Castle is closed on the Second Wednesday of December and from December 31 to January 1, and is open from 9:00 to 17:00 (entry until 16:30).
Entrace to the castle keep costs 500 yen, and a separate 300 yen for Historical Museum admission.
