4,000 years ago, this volcano has been formed in Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka Prefecture with the height of about 580m and a crater with a diameter of 1 km and 70m deep.
The volcano is shaped like an inverted rice bowl with a beautiful view of Mt. Fuji, Izu Peninsula and Pacific Ocean that is why it's considered as one of the most popular tourist destination in eastern Izu.
To reach the crater, chair lift service is available. It is allowed to walk around at the top of the mountain that offers 360 degree views of the Mt. Fuji and Oshima Island.
To reach the departure area of chair lift to the top of Mt. Omuro, take the Shaboten Koen bound bus from Ito Station or Izu Kogen Station and get off at the final stop. Then, you have to go for a short walk to the chair lift.
The Mt. Omuro chair Lift operation begins at 9L00 to 17:15. Until 16:45 on March 1 to 15 and until 16:15 from October to February. It has no closing days It cost 500 Yen for round trip.
