Standing at about 500 meters above sea level, Mount Misen is officially the highest peak at Miyajima.
Visitors are sure to be welcomed by its greenery and fresh air.
Most of the hikers prefer to go via ropeway, which leads up to the mountain, but it can be also climbed by foot.
With a mixture of conifer trees and plants from different lattitudes, it was named as a Natural Monument. Throughout the climb/visit, various primitive plants can be seen.
Be sure that you are well-trained and prepared before attempting the climb. 535 meters may sound low when compared to the highest mountains of the world but it's in a range where precise preparation is needed.
From the Istushima Shrine, there will be a 10-minute walk to the ropeway station.
The mountain is open to the public.
