One of Okinawa Prefecture's main islands, it is situated in the Pacific Ocean about 300 kilometers to the southwest of Okinawa Main Island and 100 kilometers of the Yaeyema island. It is known for Japan's best beaches and a great destination for snorketling and diving in the coral reefs.

You can also visit the a botanical garden which is known as the Tropical Botanical Garden and lastly, the Ikema Kurima Bridges, a 1425m long bridge that connect Miyako and Ikema.
Travel via air from Haneda Airport to Miyako airport. (3 hours travel time) then, from Kansai International Airport to Miyako Airport (3 hours and 30 minutes travel time), and from Naha to Miyako airport (45 minutes travel time).
