Minamata Disease wass considered as one of the earliest pollution problems in Japan and this museum wass built to collect and preserve valuable materials about the mentioned disease.
It was opened in January 1993 and since then, the museum conducts lessons and experiences about Minamata disease as well the prevention of the disease.
Documents of the history, photographs, video presentation are the main exhibitions of the museum to tackle the disease. The museum also exhibits the present situation of the disease and the experiences that the patients have gone through/
From Minamata Station, you can reach the museum by a 20-30 minte walk. Another option is by renting a bicycle available at Minamata Station.
The museum opens at 9:00 to 17:00 It is closed during Mondays and December 29 to January 3. Admission is free.
