Maruyama Park is one of the largest public parks in downtown Kyoto, a haven in the South Higashiyama District. The park is known for its centerpiece, a tall shidarezakura (weeping cherry tree), which is illuminated every night for better yazakura (night hanami) experience. Make sure you catch the cherry blossoms in full bloom on late March to April.
The park is just next to Yasaka Shrine (south) and Chion-in Temple (north). Make sure you visit these two!
From Kyoto Station, take a bus and alight to Gion Bus Stop, or Kyoto City Bus 100 or 206.
The park is open 24 hours daily. Smoking is prohibited in this place. In joining hanami parties, expect public drunkeness. Go early so you can secure a better spot.
