Nikko City is a place for a waterfall hopping all throughout Japan and no wonder that one of the most beautiful waterfalls is found here. Along with Fukuroda Falls and Nachi Falls, Kegon Waterfall is Japan's three most beautiful falls.
The waterfall is 97 meters high with a with of about 7 meters. Aside from the waterfall itself, there are additionally a dozen of small waterfall around the lower part of the main fall.
The beauty of the scenery can be viewed by the observation deck platform for free but if you want more extraordinary view of the fall, there is a paid platform via a 100 meter deep elevator that offers a closer view of the basin of the waterfall.
From Tobu-Nikko Station, take a route bus and get off at Chuzenji-onsen bus terminal. From there, the waterfall is just a short walk away.
The waterfall can be accessed anytime as well as the free observation deck. The paid observation deck opens at 8:00 to 17:00 from March to November and 9:00 to 16:30 from December to February. Admission fee is 550 Yen.
