Katsurahama Beach is located south of central Kochi and considered as one of the most popular spots in Kochi Prefecture.
The symbol of Katsurahama is the large Statue of Ryoma Sakamoto, a samurai and architect from Japan's modern times.
Swimming is strictly prohibited in the beach due to its high current but visitors can also enjoy other attractions located just around the area.
Among them is the famous statue of Kochi's favorite son, Sakamoto Ryoma, as well as the Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Museum, which stands on the hill above the beach.
The Tosa Dog Museum, which is also nearby, also draws a lot of visitors. They exhibit a large local breed of dogs that perform dog fighting.
There is a one way trip from JR Kochi Station to Katsurahama via the Kochiken Kotsu bus.
Alternatively, My Yu Bus is also available, which runs from Kochi Station via Mount Godaisan to Katsurahama.
The beach is open to the public everyday.
