Kagoshima City Aquarium is located just near the Sakurajima Ferry Terminal in Kagoshima Prefecture.Since its inception in 1997, since then the aquarium has been consistently averaging a million visits per year. According to Japan Info Website, the emperor and empress of Japan during 2003 and by the Prince and Princess Hitachi in 2007 also visisted this famous aquarium.
The aquarium is consisted of seven floors that exhibits different collection of marine life which is organized by theme.
On the first floor of the aquarium, visitors will be able to sea urchins, starfish and sea cucumbers. On the second floor, visitor can find the variety of fish of all sizes, school of tiny fish, a giant whale shark is the main attraction of this aquarium called the Kuroshio Tank. Exhibition also includes sea otters, giant crabs, coral reefs and mangroves.
The third floor exhibits a special exhibitions with jelly fish swirling around as well as frogs.
The Sea of Kagoshima is in the 4th floor which exhibits sea life from the local area. Onto the fourth floor is the place for the visitors to relax, it has a vending machines and has a view of the bay.
There is also restaurants and shops inside the establishment.
From Kagoshima Airport - Take the shuttle bus that will pass through the aquarium center.
From JR Kagoshima Chuo Station - Take a streetcar and get off at Kagoshima Suizokukamae station. From JR Kagoshima Station - take the Kagoshima City View bus.
The aquarium opens at 9:30 to 18:00 and entry is until 17:00 only.
It is closed for four consecutive days starting from the first Monday of December.
Admission fee for the adult is 1500 Yen; Student is 750 Yen and child over 4 is 350 Yen.
