Honpuku-ji or the Water Temple is known for its modern architectural style, where the structure reveals nothing but its roof that also functions as an elliptical lily pond.
The lilies were neatly arranged, thus gives the visitors another unique perspective. Entering the staircase will lead you to a predominant red colored hall that enshrines the statue of Buddha. The Buddhist temple for the Shingon-sect was designed by architect Ando Tadao on 1991.
It is therefore a mixture of modern and traditional architectural art from inside out.
The Water Temple is also 5-10 minute walk from Yasaka Shrine.
Honpuku-ji is 20-minutes walk from Higashiura Bus Terminal.
It is open from 9:00 to 17:00, with 400 yen entrance fee.
