Only two hours away from Tokyo, Hitachi Seaside Park is a wide lawn carpeted with variety of flowers, definitely a jewel of Ibaraki.
It is one of the best spots to observe the October autumn colors. Among the flower gardens in the park, Kochia (a bushy ornamental plant that turns to pink or red in fall) is the most popular. The 4.5 Million baby blue eyes flowers, nemophilia, cosmos and tulips painting the hillside are also among the favorite of the park visitors.
The park is not only for flower viewing. The 3.5 hectare lawn also has an in-house amusement park called "Pleasure Garden". Riding the iconic giant ferris wheel called "Flower Ring" is a perfect view to see the overall beauty of the place. Visitors can also rent a bike and take the bicycle course. There is also a "Seaside train" that will roam you around the park.
Apart from the beautiful gardens of the park, there are also restaurants and cafes to refresh yourself. There are crepe shops, barbeque areas, and a rest house where you can discover the history of the seaside park.
From Ueno, ride the train and get off at Katsuta Station. Then, take the Ibarakikotsu Bus and get off at Hitachi Seaside Park.
