Hakone Open Air Museum earned its popularity for its collection of oversized sculptures temporarily exhibited freely outdoor. It is one of the best place for art interaction, especially for kids.
It is a place where the human and nature's art got combined. It gathered hundreds of masterpieces of Japanese and foreign artists around the world, including the works of Picasso.
The museum's collections include about 100 masterpieces of Rodin, Bourdelle, Miro, Moore and others in the garden; and Brancusi, Morie Ogiwara, Boccioni, Lipchitz, Modigliani, Shin Hongo and others inside. Visitors can enjoy the huge artworks up-close in the open air. Children can also play among sculptures.
The Picasso Papillion exhibits in series one of the world's best collections of Picasso consisting of about 300 items.
There are four other indoor exhibition halls: main hall gallery, multi hall, art hall and Ryokuei gallery.
It's a short walk from the Chokoku No Mori Station (Hakone Tozan Railway)
The open air museum opens at 9:00 to 17:00, entry until 16:30. It has no closing days. Admission fee is 1600 Yen, 1400 Yen with the Hakone Free Pass and 1500 yen with online discount coupon.
