Fukuoka's Castle depicts a humbling image compared to other castles in Japan, but the wide castle grounds will surely give you a stroll to remember. The castle's massive stoneworks also adds to the simple beauty of the castle. The castle was built on 1607, about 400 years ago by the master castle builders in that era. It is used to be the biggest castle in Fukuoka, but it was almost torn after Meiji Restoration due to its unwanted symbol of feudalism.
You can a rent Yukata (traditional Japanese dress) while wandering the castle park via "Fukuoka Walks". Impress your friends. Don't forget to take photos as much as you can in several hours that you wear the Yukata! Fukuoka Castle is ideal for morning walks and jogs. You can also visit the nearby attractions such as Korokan Ruins, an ancient state guest house of foreign diplomats.
The Fukuoka Castle Ruins can be reached 15 minutes on foot from Ohori Koen Subway Station.
The best time to visit is on late March to April while the park become a nice spot for cherry blossoms viewing.
