The Adachi Museum of Art located east of Matsue in Shamane Prefecture was established in 1970 by Adachi Zenko because of his love for Japanese art and garden design. The museum exhibits a great collection of modern Japanese paintings, ceramics, and sculptures by famous the Japanese artist.
Also situated around the museum is a garden which is also famous in Japan because of its view and beauty. It has been selected as the best garden in Japan for four years since 2003, by the Journal of Japanese Gardenings Shiosai Ranking.
Adachi Museum of Art is one of the best must-see places in Shimane. It has a collection of around 1,500 paintings of Taikan Yokoyama, Shiho Sakakibara and Shunso Hishida. While the ceramics collection include the works of Rosanjin Kitaoji and Kanjiro Kawai.
The garden will also be loved by a garden lover. It is consist of 6 garden that includes the Dry Landscape Garden, The White Gravel & Pine Garden, the Moss Garden and the Pond Garden.
Within the gardens, there are two teahouses to let the visitor relax and sip a cup of tea.
Take a train from Matsue Station and get off at Yasugi Station. From there, is a one free shuttle bus to the museum. Note that the bus only operates per hour.
The museum opens at 9:00 to 17:30. From October to March, the museum is until 17:00 only. No closing days.
Admission fee is 2500 Yen and 50% for foreigh visitors.
