Japan’s kawaii culture has gone from cute to weird as time passes. Many girls have done quite a few changes in their appearance in order to attain the kawaii standard most girls possess - including doing operations to have uneven teeth. While many foreigners see straight set of teeth as their ideal ones, the Japanese, on the other hand, see it otherwise.
Yaeba, or having fang-like canines, is a common sight among Japan’s young women. Many students, as well as women in the working force, undergo a surgery to make their teeth look like vampire fangs which stick out of the normal set of teeth. Dental clinics have offers for permanent or temporary canines glued to their teeth. Some even give discounts to students.
Many Japanese celebrities have natural yaeba teeth, thus influencing the youth to have the same look. Having crooked and uneven set of teeth is now a standard of beauty for most girls in Japan.
Recently, a girl group called TYB48 or Tsuke-Yaeba 48, has been formed by a local dental clinic in Roponggi. The girls who have undergone the surgery of having their teeth modified have joined together to show how cute they and their teeth are.
Some Japanese men prefer girls who have an imperfect set of teeth as they look cute and youthful, no wonder a lot of girls prefer to have the surgery at a young age.
Truly, yaeba is one of the weird but kawaii trends in Japan.
