An otaku is someone who has a deep love relationship with watching anime, reading manga, playing video games, collecting action figures, and what not. In Japan, this term connotes a negative impression among the Japanese, because being an otaku implies that someone does not have a social life or just simply a lazy person. But despite of the negative accusations, not all otakus live their entire lives focusing only with their hobbies.
Here are the kinds of otaku that you can commonly see in Japan:
1. Anime Otaku – These are the people who loves to spend most of their time watching anime.
2. Manga Otaku – Manga Otaku loves to collect and read manga (Japanese Comics) and display them in chronological order in their bookshelves.
3. Cosplay Otaku – Dressed like a character in anime or a game, a Cosplay Otaku dedicate themselves to portray their favorite character in a cosplay event even if it means spending thousands.
4. Game Otaku – GAMES and lots of it. This is the kind of addiction the Game Otaku has. You can spot them playing in arcade stations.
5. Figure Otaku – A shelf or perhaps a room solely dedicated to figurines. Figure Otaku is an avid collector of their favorite characters ranging from small sizes to life-sized.
6. Robot Otaku – Japan is known for investing in robot research far greater than other countries. A Robot Otaku is a collector of high-end and automatic robots.These hobbyists are serious with robots, they can also be involved in their creation.
7. Idol and JPop Otaku – Opposed to cosplay and anime, an Idol Otaku is someone who’s into their male or female idols. They collect posters, magazines and attend events and wherever their idol is.
8. Train Otaku – Japan is mostly known to have a various kinds of train. And yes, there are people who are into photographing and riding these trains. They are called the Train Otaku or Tetsudou Otaku.
