Are you a crazy cat lady (or do you just love cats in general)? Try downloading this game called Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector! It's a cat collecting game developed by Hit-Point that was released last 2014. This game has been on the market for quite some time now, but in case you haven't downloaded it yet, we're here to tell you why it's about time you should.
Gameplay revolves around the player acquiring food, furnitures, and various toys to attract a variety of cats to the player's garden. The player can watch cats in the garden, take photos of them, and receive gifts (better known as 'mementos') from them. There are currently 56 cats in the game, 20 of them being the rare kind (meaning there are a handful of combinations of treats you should do so they show up in the game).
There is no end to the game, but cats will only appear so long as the player continues to put food out for them. Yutaka Takasaki developed Neko Atsume, and his goal was to build a game that even children could enjoy without too much skill or time investment. Turns out the game was better than expected since people from various age groups downloaded the game. By May 2015, Neko Atsume had 4 million downloads for both Android and iOS. On August 20, 2015, it won the CEDEC Awards for best game design. In January 2016, the game was awarded as one of the Top 5 Mobile Games of 2015 by GameSpot, who commended the game as 'intensely quirky' and 'increasingly compelling'.
