Japanese children didn’t grow up watching Disney or Dreamworks movies, they have their own animated films which they have come to love even as they grow up.
The creator of these Japanese animated films is none other than Hayao Miyazaki. Miyazaki is an animator, film director, screenwriter and a manga artist. He has art has been influenced by many foreign artists and authors like Roald Dahl and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Together with Isao Takahata, Hayao Miyazaki founded Studio Ghibli in 1985.
Studio Ghibli has produced quite a lot of animated films throughout the years which were awarded and recognized not just locally, but also worldwide. Some Ghibli films also became part of the top-grossing films in Japan and won several Japan Academy Awards.

1. Spirited Away

Synopsis:
Sophie encounters a young wizard on her way to her sister’s house. On her way back, she then meets a witch who cursed her. Together with the young wizard, they must find a way to reverse the curse and solve other conflicts along the way.
3. Ponyo

Synopsis:
Sosuke, a five year old boy, found a goldfish trapped inside a bottle while walking on the beach. Soon after naming the fish Ponyo, he discovered that the goldfish he rescued was not an ordinary one.
4. My Neighbor Totoro

Synopsis:
Their new home was comfortable and simple until the sisters Satsuki and Mei realize that their new neighborhood has furry creatures watching over them.
5. Princess Momonoke

Synopsis:
On a journey to find a cure for his curse, Ashitaka finds himself in the middle of a war in the forest. He then meets Princess Momonoke, a warrior raised by a wolf-god.
