Japanese women are known throughout the world to be kawaii or cute. But most of them are not just kawaii but are really talented. Let’s meet some of Japan’s top girl groups you may want to listen to. Warning: not only are they cute and sweet, but some of them are true rockstars!
1. Perfume
Perfume is a pop group which consists of three beautiful young ladies. They have been around since the year 2000 and their popularity continues to rise as they venture outside the Japanese market and into international waters. Their song, Polyrhythm, was featured in the Pixar movie Cars 2. Perfume is known for their electro pop genre and their small high-pitched voices.
2. Scandal
Known for singing the OST of popular animes such as Bleach and Full Metal Alchemist, Scandal is one of the top girl bands there is in Japan.The band’s four members each play their own instruments: drums, keyboard, guitar, and bass. Four high school girls who wanted to create their own music joined together and formed a band they wouldn’t thought would go viral.
3. 9nine
9nine was formed in 2005 and currently has 5 members. Also known for their electro pop genre, their unique costumes when they perform adds to their sweetness. The girls can not only sing but model and act as well.
4. C-ute
Not only is C-ute cute but they are also well rounded. The group’s five members can also sing and dance which have been amusing the Japanese crowd for almost a decade now. Their songs are well-known in Japan and tops the Oricon Chart once released.
5. AKB48
Probably the most famous JPOP girl group in whole of Japan and the world, AKB48 has continued to gather millions of fans. The group started out with 48 members but now, they currently have about 130 girls dancing on stage. Though they are separated to smaller groups, each group’s popularity is almost the same as they perform all throughout Japan. One of their songs, “Sugar Rush” was featured in the movie Wreck-it Ralph.
