The Japanese high regards for deities and gods. They believe that the sky is the most sacred place since it is where the gods reside. The stars are also a representation of Japanese myths and legends thus stargazing is considered to be one of the best pastime during night for many.
You may want to visit one of these spots to see the night sky with your loved ones.
1. Nikko Park
Nikko National Park spreads to four prefectures, namely Tochigi, Gunma, Fukushima, and Niigata. It is a famous site for stargazing and there are even telescopes in the area which allows you to connect your smartphone and lets you record the stars. There are also several onsen or hot springs around the area with open roofs that will let you witness the beauty of the stars while relaxing your body.
2. Torami Kaigan
If you want to walk down the beach, drive over to Torami Kaigan in Chiba, about 90 minutes drive away from Tokyo. The beach has no street lights, a perfect escape from the well-lit city of Tokyo. You can unwind here and even stay the night! Don’t forget to bring a tent and flashlight with you!
3. Yamanakako Panorama Observatory
If you want a nice view of Mt. Fuji at night with the starry sky as its background, head over to lake Yamanakako. The observatory offers an unobstructed view of Mt Fuji that will surely leave you in awe.
4. Nobeyama Highland
Located in Nagano, you can also see the Minami Alps from here besides the twinkling stars. Though it is quite far away from Tokyo, it will surely leave you breathless when you see the stars shining above you. It’s best to go here during the winter but be sure to put on some winter tires!
