Not all things in Japan are kawaii (cute) or kakoii (cool), some may be weird and out of this world. Check out these weird cafes around Japan which may or may not fit your taste.
Stuffed Toy Cafe
No humans are allowed in this cafe. You read that right, no humans allowed. You send your stuffed toys to Yawarakan Cafe in Tokyo and you let them play with other stuffed toys overnight at the cafe. Your toy can choose to have drinks or food, or even play cards and even be read a bedtime story. They will also be tucked in to bed and will be mailed back to you in the morning. Don’t worry! You’ll get souvenir pictures of the things your stuffed toy did in the cafe!
Ganguro Cafe
For those who are not familiar with ganguro fashion, it is a trend in Japan wherein girls put on bronze makeup and wear lots of colorful and extravagant accessories. In a cafe called Black Diamond in Shibuya, you will be welcomed by these ganguro girls. Don’t be shocked, they are extremely hospitable and will serve you whatever drink you like.
Vampire Cafe
Ginza’s Vampire Cafe will surely impress you. As you enter, shades of red and black will welcome you. Don’t be afraid of the food that will be served, everything is safe even though some of the looks of the drinks and the food might look like blood. The overall feel of the place is somehow similar to Dracula’s castle and the names in the menu might be a little bit creepy.
Owl Cafe
Found in Tokyo, Fukuro no Mise or Owl Store is a must-see for bird lovers. No light can get inside the cafe so expect it to be a little bit dark inside. The cafe opens at 3 PM. Even though the owls are tied down, you may still play with them and take selfies with them.
Rabbit Cafe
Even though this place is not much of a cafe since it does not offer food, you can still enjoy the company of rabbits and bunnies during your stay. It has a private room and you can pick your own bunny which will be your buddy for the day. It is famous for young friends who want to spend time together while having cute animals by their side. Usagi no Kan can be found at Akihabara.
Reptile Cafe
Don’t be scared but you’ll find yourself eating with iguanas, turtles, and snakes. Yes, snakes. This cafe is located at Yokohama. Their cookies and other pastries are shaped like turtles too! Some might be freaked out by these reptiles but they’re really friendly and you can pet them as long as you want.
If you’re tired of maid cafes and cat cafes, you may want to try these places!
