1. Churaumi Aquarium
Location: 424 Ichikawa Motobu-town Kunigami-gun, Okinawa
Considered to be the best aquarium in the whole of Japan, Churaumi Aquarium resides in the country’s top tropical destination. Okinawa does not only offer beautiful beaches but it is also home to different species of marine animals. In the Kuroshio Tank, one of the largest fish tanks in the world, you can find sharks and manta rays swimming with other sea creatures. The aquarium is three floors high. There are various aquatic animals to see and enjoy.
2. Osaka Aquarium Location:
1-1-10 Kaigan-dori Minato-ku Osaka-city, Osaka
The second largest aquarium next to Churaumi is the Kaiyukan or Osaka Aquarium. There are 15 tanks all over the place which represent each region of the Pacific Rim. Tourists will start their tour at the 8th floor and walk down to see the central tank which is 9 meters deep. A whale shark is the main attraction of the site.
3. Sumida Aquarium
Location: 5-6F, TOKYO SKYTREE TOWN Solamachi 1-2, Oshiage 1-chome, Sumida Ward, Tokyo
An aquarium can also be found at the Tokyo Skytree Complex. It contains the largest indoor tank in Japan and is home to dozens of penguins and seals. There is also a research laboratory within the facility.
4. Miyajima Aquarium
Location: 10-3, Miyajima-cho, Hatsukaichi-shi, Hiroshima
Miyajima Aquarium features the salt and freshwater creatures around the place. It also displays an oyster farm, one of the specialties of Miyajima. There are also places within the aquarium where you can touch the animals and even pet them. Live shows by sea otters, sea lions, and penguins can also be attended by visitors.
5. Aquamarine Fukushima
Location: Onahama Pier 2, 50,Tatsumi-cho, Onahama, Iwaki-shi, Fukushima
This aquarium faces the Pacific Ocean. There is also an observation platform where you can view the ocean. A rare specie called the nautilus can also be found in the aquarium. Even though it was damaged during the March 2011 earthquake, it eventually reopened in July of the same year and it continues to be a famous landmark in the Tohoku region.
