#3 - Chocolate Takoyaki
Takoyaki is the ever-so-famous Japanese snack. Chocolate is the ever-so-loved dessert by the Japanese.
So what happens when you combine these two? You would have Takoyaki Shock Chocolate. These are created by Aoki Sadaharu, Japan's most well-known pâtissier. The chocolate takoyaki is not only covered with melted chocolate but is also filled with a small piece of chocolate cake in the middle, with red and green macaroon rusks sprinkles.
Each serving of this Takoyaki Shock Chocolate contains four pieces for the cost of 432 yen (US$3.84).
#2 - Chocolate Ramen
Valentine's Day is coming and the specials are starting to come back. The limited-time tsukemen-styled chocolate ramen is once again offered at Menya Musashi, a Tokyo ramen chain in Shinjuku, during the first two weeks of February. Tsukemen is a noodle dish eaten by dipping ramen noodles into a separate bowl of soup or sauce.
The official name for this year's chocolate ramen is Tsuke Ghana 2017, named after the chocolate brand Ghana, which is used for all the ramen.
Once you enter the restaurant, you will come across a vending machine wherein you'll be placing your money and your order. It will now be printed into a receipt that you shall be giving to the chef. Who wouldn't love the technology in Japan, right?
The order is then served in two separate bowls, since it's a tsukemen-style ramen. You may opt to dip or not into the chocolate sauce depending on your preferences.
To add thrill to your Valentine's experience, only 20 bowls of Tsuke Ghana are offered per day, so it's best to show up early. Head on over to Shinjuku and try the chocolate ramen before all the bowls have been consumedd.
#1 - Tsumugi
If you want to try something out of the ordinary this year, then try the Tsumugi. It's a dish which contains a heart-shaped food, made of non-additive, fresh sea urchins and cod roe or fish eggs. Although, you may opt not to order the latter.
The dish may be ordered online for a limited time from Rakuten Ichiba for 3,500 yen. Upon delivery, it will be placed inside a special valentine's day box.
Switch it up this year by indulging on seafood dishes rather than the usual sweets.
From chocolates to burgers to seafood to ramen, isn’t it cool to spend Valentines in Japan?
