One of the ways to equate the success of a manga is when it is already adapted to an anime. However, it also requires a thousand more hard work for the mangaka before he or she gets his or her work from paper to screen.
Because of that, here’s a list of manga which already seemed to have done enough hard work for it to be adapted to another medium.
Fushigi Yuugi: Genbu Kaiden
A prequel to the globally popular anime and manga, Fushigi Yuugi—the Genbu Kaiden Arc follows the young Priestess of Genbu, Takiko Okuda, as she goes on a journey of finding her seven celestial warriors to save the land of Hokkan from its looming destruction.
As the first anime series that I’ve watched, Fushigi Yuugi definitely has a special place in my heart. Its unforgettable storyline and characters still have me captivated even now, and has inspired a lot of writings from my younger self. I could say the same thing for Genbu Kaiden, which undoubtedly has the best celestial priestess in the series.
Momochi-san Chi no Ayakashi Ouji
When Himari turned 16, she inherited an ancestral mansion in the middle of the woods and proceeded to live there. However, what she’s yet to discover was that the house already has its residents and not a single one of them is ordinary!
An Ayakashi-themed shoujo manga plus a pretty cool heroine and a supporting cast who have been given a chance to develop their characters, what more does it need to prove itself worthy of an adaptation?
Hana-kun to Koisuru Watashi
A bittersweet story of first love, heartbreak, and moving on—Hana-kun to Koisuru Watashi is a tale that fans of the romance genre shouldn’t miss out on. There is actually nothing extraordinary about the plot, and could almost feel cliché at its best. However, its take on romance, relationships, maturity and growth will definitely captivate its readers to ask for more.
Himegimi to Sanbiki no Kemono
A coming-of-age story with a twist of romance and adventure, this manga has a plot perfect for animation.
Princess Violet, the sheltered princess of Alba, wishes to travel the world just like what her late father did, but her mother, the Queen, has other plans. That’s why, when given the chance to escape, even if it meant joining a band of thieves, Violet just couldn’t pass up on the chance.
Her decision to join Crow’s group might make you question her wits, but fret not Violet is absolutely sane and her actions are justifiable by circumstances she was in. And since this is a manga with adventure and fantasy as its main theme, it’s pretty obvious that Crow and his friends are nice guys.
With all these exciting plot twists, who wouldn’t want to see these manga come to life on the screen? Let’s hope to see these titles on the next batch of manga that will be animated by Japan’s major creators.
All of the titles mentioned above are available online but of course, it’s still better to purchase your own copy as a show of support to your favourite mangaka!
