Japan offers a myriad and exquisite form of festivals, events and shows that reflect the rich and cultural traditions of the Japanese. Every month there are events that are unique for each city and prefecture. In this August 3-4, 2019, these festivals showcase the creativity and fun side of the Japanese people.
Fireworks Festival at Ome City
Ome City, a city within the western part of Tokyo urban area is where the 71st massive fireworks festival will take place. About 4,132 fireworks will light the sky leaving a sparkling and dazzling fireworks display as if a thousand glitters were tossed into the sky. The festivity will start at 7:30 pm and ends at 8:55 pm. To get there, you have to take a Chou line train from Shinjuku station and upon arriving at the Tachikawa station change to Ome line that will bring you to the nearest point - Ome station.

Teganuma Kashiwa Fireworks
Teganuma Kashiwa Fireworks Festival is a major event that lits glittering fireworks above Teganuma lake that is located northeast of Tokyo. This event is also the biggest fireworks display in the area of Kashiwa. About 13,000 fireworks will be lit. Aside from this fireworks show, there are points of interests such as nearby parks (Kashiwa-No-Ha Park Tearoom, Nambu Park, Akebonoyama Agri park, Erythronium Park), shopping areas (Kashiwanoha T-Site, Lalaport Kashiwanhoa, Seven park Ario Kashiwa and Kashiwa Takashimaya Station Mall).

Hachioji Festival

Hachioji festival draws about 800,000 people attracted by the festival’s lion dance, geisha performance, float parade, night market, taiko drummers, portable shrines, Hachioji fireworks, food and drinks sold at stalls. One of the tastiest cool treats is the Kakigori or shaved ice.

Raw Tokyo Flea Market

Free entry for Museum of Modern Art

The Nations Museum of Modern Art (MOMAT) opens its doors for free every first Sunday of each month. MOMAT houses Japanese masterpieces of Important Cultural works from the 20th century. There is a nearby restaurant nearby - L’Art et Mikuni that is located on the second floor of the museum. For souvenirs, you can buy goods from the museum shop such as memo pad, card case, book cover, MOMAT bag and T-shirt. If you like reading, the museum offers a collection of books and some materials about contemporary and modern arts.

Evening Chill Out at Kyu Yasuda Teien

This event is officially called ‘Noryo no Yube’ or refreshing evening - an evening chill-out held at the gardens of Yasuda Teien where there are Haiku performances, light-ups, and traditional Koto playing.
