Subaru Leone has promised the power of the lion, hence its name, which came from the Italian word for it. Manufactured by the the Fuji Heavy Industries, it was launched in 1971 to replace the Subaru 1000. The Subaru Leone was a four-wheel drive car, powered by Subaru EA boxer.
So how mighty was this lion really was? In 1980, Noriyuki Koseki, who is the founder of the Subaru Tecnica International (STI) led the Subaru Rally Team at the World Rally Championship, bringing the Subaru Leone coupe, the Sedan DL and the RX Turbo. They were then just one of the very few manufacturers who had the courage and technology to combine four-wheel drive and turbo.
