Subaru started in the industry as early as 1915, under the name The Aircraft Research Laboratory. It has retained that automobile reputation until the World War II, when Subaru became the official producer of the Japanese air force jets and fighter planes. After the war, they delved into the production of cars, and created Subaru 360, their very first car. It was actually a Kei car or a light car, which was produced in accordance to the Japanese post-war regulation, that enforced manufacturers to create smaller cars so that the people can afford buying them.
