On April 22, 2016, the Mitsubishi X-2 Shinshin Fighter Jet took its first flight. It is actually the Japanese experimental aircraft which is exclusively made by the Japanese Ministry of Defense Technical Research and Development Institute (TRDI) to test the stability of upcoming stealth fighter aircraft technologies. Mainly produced for research purposes, the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is the one chosen to create such fighter jet. Considered to be Japan's first domestically-made fighter jet, it has been also named as ATD-X or short for the Advanced Technology Demonstrator X. The name Shinshin has been more common, composed of Japanese characters which both meant "mind."
