The Mazda MX-5 is also known as Mazda MX-5 Miata in North America and as Eunos Roadster in Japan. It is a lightweight, two-seater car with a front-engine and a rear-wheel-drive system.

The car was launched at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show and was manufactured in Hiroshima. The car was said to be the successor of British sports cars like the Triumph Spitfire, Austin-Healey 100, MG MGA, and the Lotus Elan.

Although described as feminine, the Miata, to date, it is now considered to be the best-selling two-seat convertible sports car in history having a record of 400,000 units sold from 1989-1997.
