Acura was founded by the Honda Motor Company as their luxury vehicle wing. Acura claims the title of being the first Japanese luxury automotive brand. In March, 1986, the brand was launched in the United States and Canada, bearing the high-performance quality of their vehicles. In 1991, the brand was introduced in Hong Kong. Thirteen years later, it arrived in Mexico. In 2006, it reached China and just about three years ago, it went to Russia and Kuwait, the following year.

The brand was supposed to be available in the Japanese market by 2008 but was withdrewn due to the fluctuating Japanese economy of the time.
