Yuu Watase is Japanese manga writer, artist, and illustrator. She has been a prolific writer of over 80 volumes of short stories and continuing series, 23 of which belong to the shoujo genre. She has gained recognition for creating the series Fushigi Yuugi, and the fantasy shojo series Ceres Celestial Legend.
Yuu Watase developed an interest in manga from a young age. She started training formally after high school when she went to a private art school. She wrote her first manga at the age of 18 with the oneshot Pajama de Ojama (An Interlude in Pyjamas) in 1989. She prefers the traditional method of creating manga which includes mostly colored inks and markers, although she has ventured into digital programs, as well to improve her work. The typical tropes in her works are characterized by love triangles, melodrama, and romantic scenes.
