The illustrator, game creator, character designer, and animator Takami Akai is known as the creator of the Princess Maker game franchise.

He is also a co-founder of Studio Gainax, an anime studio that produces Neon Genesis Evangelion along with Hideaki Anno, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, and Shinji Higuchi. Although he has already resigned as one of the founders of Gainax in 2007, he now runs his own company named NineLives.

His other works are Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Wings of Honneamise, Medaka Box, Crest of the Stars, Petite Princess Yucie, and Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi where he also provided character designs for these series.
