This is the external surface of the main headquarters of the leading publisher of Japan, the Shogakukan in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan.
Shogakukan was first founded as a publishing house specializing in educational magazines for elementary-school children and teachers which includes picture books, dictionaries, and encyclopedias. It began to issue Weekly Shonen Sunday, the company's first weekly manga magazine, in 1959. On the year 1980s and 1990s when comic books became popular, Shogakukan expanded with fashion and lifestyle magazines such as Oggi and Be-Pal.
Nowadays, Shogakukan is considered as one of Japan's major publishers, publishing eighteen comic magazines and about one hundred million comic books a year.
