The Mob Psycho story revolves around the Shigeo Kageyama, a young psychic who was nicknamed mob. He was living in Seasoning City. Since his childhood, he possessed outstanding psychical powers except the ability to befriend a girl whom he likes. Soon his power proved that it's a liability due to the potential danger from his skills. Determined to suppress his powers, Shigeo or Mob uses only one power to impress Tsubomi, his crush, who became bored of his using of the same tricks. 

Mob enlists under the con artist, Arataka Reign who uses Mob's power in exchange of pocket change. Mob's power expands into the ability to exorcise evil spirits. There's a danger that if his emotions went unrestrained - a cataclysmic event would progress. It seems Mob's power is heading towards an uncontrolled explosion and an attempt to stop such power explosion could be futile.
