Located in Nakagyou, Kyoto International Manga Museum houses around 300,000 collections, including magazines from the Meiji period and some rental books from postwar Japan. The building used to be the location of the Tatsuike Elementary School. The project was made with the partnership of the Kyoto City Government and the Kyoto Seika Universty. The building and the land was owned by the government and the facilitaion was monitored by the latter institution.
A copy of the Eshinbun Nipponchi, Japan's first manga magazine from 1874, is exhibited in the museum. Shonen Pakku, Japan's first children's manga magazine from 1907, is also on display at the Kyoto International Manga Museum. It also keeps copies of Japan Punch, which ran from 1862, the Bunkyou period, to 1887, the Japanese Meiji period. Japan Punch was published by Charles Wirgman in Yokohama.
