Yes, your favorite girls' dorm, the Hinata House of Love Hina, apparently was made by a man.
Meet Ken Akamatsu, the successful mangaka behind Keitarou Urashima of the manga and anime, Love Hina.
When he was younger, he took some film units, and was said to be the inspiration for Love Hina. He then became a hit illustrator at Japan's Comiket, under the pen name Awa Mizuno. In college, he finally majored in Japanese literature. This was the time he got his first Weekly Shounen Magazine award. It was when he graduated that his work, Hito Natsu no Kids Game, won the 50th Shounen Magazine's Rookie Award.
