The award-winning 2016 Japanese animated film, In This Corner of the World (Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni), is about Suzu, an 18-year-old girl who gets married during World War II. She then moved to a town called Kure in Hiroshima, until the big historical bombing in the said prefecture. The film shows how Suzu survived the cruelties of the war, while taking care of her family.
The film was co-written and directed by Sunao Katabuchi, who was also the assistant director of the phenomenal Ghibli movie, Kiki's Delivery Service. The film was produced by MAPPA, the same production company behind Hajime no Ippo: Rising and the sensational 2016 anime, Yuri on Ice. Character design was created by Hidenori Matsubara, the same person behind Ah! My Goddess and Evangelion.
